‘Boat in the Sky’

This weekend I went to Anglesey, Wales and on the way visited the Chirk and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. A stunning example of historic engineering, the Aquaduct allows narrow boats to sail across the valley via a water channel. Built by Thomas Telford over the years of 1795-1805, There are 18 piers made of local stone, the central ones being 126’ high up to the iron work…The canal runs through an iron though which is 1007’ long, 11’10’’ wide and 5’3’’ deep.The largest in Britain.

The views from the Aquaduct are fantastic across the countryside showing the natural river course running below…
